The Alexandra Sasse Drawing Prize is open to all Trinity Grammar School students in Years 10, 11 and 12 in 2021. Entries must be received by 16th August 2021. Entries must be the unassisted work of the student and must have been completed within the 12 months prior to the Drawing Prize exhibition dates. Works must be executed by hand in traditional drawing media, but there is no restriction on the type and nature of the imagery that may be explored by these means. Computer generated artwork is not eligible.
The aim of the Prize is to encourage lively and enthusiastic drawing practice, provide exhibition experience, and to foster connections between students and industry professionals by the curated selection and exhibition of the best work of the students currently in Years 10, 11 and 12 at Trinity Grammar School. Prizes will be awarded as follows: First Prize: $250. Second Prize: $100. Third Prize $50.
The Gallery is housed in the former home of Sir Wilfred Kent-Hughes, son of Trinity Grammar founder W. Kent Hughes. The building remains in the same family, each generation has attended Trinity Grammar School. Alexandra is married to the great grandson of W K H.
Practicing artist, arts writer and gallery director, Alexandra Sasse has donated her space and sponsored this inaugural prize, to be judged this year by Mr Ken Smith.
Mr Smith, artist and former Lecturer in Drawing within the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture at Monash University has held fourteen solo exhibitions and has been included in eighty-two group exhibitions. His research papers have been published in international journals and forums. Mr Smith has works in private collections around the world, the Ballinglen Museum of Art, Ireland and in the following public collections in Australia: – Artbank, Art Gallery of Ballarat, Bundaberg Arts Centre, Commonwealth Bank, Devonport Gallery and Arts Centre, Grafton Regional Gallery, Mornington Penisula Regional Gallery, Leeuwin Estate, McPhersons Ltd, The Hutchins School Hobart.
