Jane Chandler

Jane Chandler’s newest body of work, produced in her early eighties, brings a lifetime of artistic practice to these meditations on threat, survival, and interdependence; a response to the fragile mangrove swamps of the Grantville area.

Jane Chandler is a Melbourne based artist who has worked extensively across both ceramics and painting. She studied Fine Art at the Phillip Institute of Technology, Melbourne and the New York Studio School of Drawing and Painting New York.

Jane Chandler’s newest body of work, produced in her early eighties, brings a lifetime of artistic practice to these meditations on threat, survival, and interdependence; a response to the fragile mangrove swamps of the Grantville area. Energetic layers of colour depict semi-abstracted forms of the sea and its margins, expressing both a sense of delight and foreboding.

Jane has exhibited extensively in selected exhibitions including the John Leslie Landscape Award. Her work can be found in the collections of Gippsland Art Gallery, Walkers National Ceramic Award Collection, Nillumbik Shire Art Collection and the Victorian State Craft Collection. She was awarded the Inaugural Still Life Prize, Tacit Gallery in 2020.
