Maryanne Wick
Kirrily Hammond

Travel happens to most of us, by design or circumstance. Two Australian artists put new roots into the old and fertile soils of Northern and Southern Europe enriched with the history and place-makings of others. Their work distils what speaks to all of us, across millennia and miles.

Northern Landscapes
Kirrily Hammond
Painting By Kirrily Hammond Søndermarken 2021
'Søndermarken' 2021. Kirrily Hammond. Oil on linen, 46 x 46 cm.

'Northern Landscapes' is a new body of work drawn from the artist's experience of living in Denmark for the last five years. The landscape has been a constant source of inspiration in her practice for over twenty-five years and her images are intuitive responses to her surroundings. Kirrily’s works are about capturing universal moments of sublime in the everyday, inspired by the delicate transience of evening light or memories of a place.

Iberia Antiqua - Still Life Painting
Maryanne Wick
Painting by Maryanne Wick 'Spice Pots', 2023,
'Spice Pots (Ollas de especia)' 2023, Maryanne Wick. Oil on wood, 20.5 x 25.5 cm

'Iberia Antiqua - Still Life Painting' is a new series of still life oil paintings and collages based on a unique collection of 3000-year-old Iberian artefacts from the Museo Municipal de Valdepenas, in Castilla La Mancha, Spain. Drawing from two years in Spain and her 2018 residency at the Museo, the artist depicts artefacts from the collection that captured her heart and her imagination, together with some unusual pieces from the same period, discovered on the artist’s travels in south-east Spain. Each composition quietly unveils a sense of place, a story of endurance and a journey through time.
