The attraction for me to a chosen subject is invariably about light. Noticing a fall of light on a building, or streetscape – and the abstract relationship with shape, line, form and colour is what moves me to respond.
Bathurst where I live, its streets and rural surrounds, offers endless possibilities for subject matter. I value being able to return to refer to a subject until the work is resolved. While larger pictures are worked on in my studio, I enjoy the immediacy of drawing and painting outdoors ‘in situ’ and aim to convey the sensation of what I see and feel.
