The Madrid Report

Watercolour painting of Plaza de Cibeles by Alexandra Sasse
‘Plaza de Cibeles, Madrid’ Alexandra Sasse. Watercolour 2016

What would make you drop everything? Last month I booked a ticket on Saturday and got on a  23 hour flight on Tuesday in a rush to see the MADRID REALIST exhibition in Spain. How uncommon to see contemporary paintings that are unafraid of either beauty or realism. We are used to seeing such things from any other period of history but our own. But when the pictures are of your own time, and you are surrounded by the landscape and life from which they are drawn, the power of art is realised.

My review of the exhibition will be published in British art magazine The Jackdaw on the 22 June – check back for a link or click on my RSS feed on the my main blog page.
