Sasse and Dober

‘Recent Landscapes’ brings together the paintings of two plein air artists; highlighting the distinction between looking and seeing. Interpreting experience into form these artists draw on the familiar world around us, creating new visions.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Gallery, with its elegant light-filled rooms, garden views and great selection of contemporary paintings.

The gelati-pastel colours of Mark Dober’s landscapes look good enough to eat, and Sasse’s own painted views from Kew rooftops bring an incisive painterly interpretation to the everyday suburban vista.

Sasse’s keenly observed local landscapes juxtapose natural and built forms reflect on the  turmoil of place making and belonging. Alexandra’s work is held in the collections of the Melbourne Cricket Club and private collections. She studied painting at VCA and holds a MFA from Monash University.
